Stay Oilers Stay!!
Deal comes back to haunt Peter Puck The deal Peter Pocklington
signed with Edmonton Northlands,
Economic Development Edmonton,
and the City of Edmonton back
in 1994 has put an end to his
apperent deal with Les Alexander.
The deal stipulates that the
team cannot move before 2004,
after that if the owner feels
that the team can make more
money in Edmonton, the new lease
will then expire in 2014 and so forth
until 2024. The only way that
the team can be moved is if
EDE, Northlands and the City
all agree to it.
Apperently, when Alexander
meet with City Officials on Monday
to ask if a renegotiation of
the deal could happen so he
could move the team was drawing
less than 12,000/game, the city
flattly said no. Therefore,
Alexander went home wimpering
like a puppy saying the city
doesn't negotiate fair.
I have news for you Les,
this city loves the Oilers,
many of its citizens BLEED Oiler
blue. My little cousin started\
crying when it was reported
that you had apperently bought
the team last week. And I'm
pretty sure he wasn't the only one.
Now the city is cheering that
you're gone. And let me say
this: Thank God you stupid,
soulless, heartless animal.
The Oilers are on the
island tonight to face the
upstart New York Islanders.
The Oilers, fresh off a 2-2
tie against the Rangers, will
once again try to post thier
first win on this 6 game/10 day
Eastern road swing. They have
previously lost 3-1 to Boston.
Last season the Oilers and
Islanders split thier season series
1-1 with the Islanders winning
at home 8-1 and the Oilers winning
at home a week later 1-0. Curtis
Joseph should start in net for
the Oilers while Tommy Salo will
most likely start for the Isles.
Oilers to lock horns with Islanders
Boyd is the Man Coach Ron Lowe has decided to
keep Edmonton rookie Boyd Devereaux
on the team. Boyd, who is 19, still
has junior elegibillity but his
inspired play has lead to him staying
with the big boys.
Lowe is extremely pleased with
Boyd's defensive play. In the
game against Toronto earlier in
the season, Boyd stopped a point
shot from Mats Sundin in the
dying seconds in the game and
then came up with a second effort
to clear the puck to end
the game.
Boyd recorded his first point in the
NHL, an assist against NYR, when
he one-timed a pass to Rem Murrey
to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead in
the second period.
